The Piers

Rewriting San Francisco’s maritime history

Following a four-year design and entitlement process, and a three-year construction period, the historically condemned Piers 1 ½, 3 and 5 along San Francisco’s Embarcadero revived and recast the city’s rich maritime history through the lens of leisure, culinary and artistic pursuits. During her tenure as a Partner at Pacific Waterfront Partners, Alicia was drawn to the opportunity to reinvigorate the waterfront’s iconic past for a new generation of locals and visitors alike. She partnered with CalSTRS and shepherded the goals and visions of 21 different agencies involved in the $60 million renovation of the Piers to arrive at the singular common plan to marry cutting-edge sustainable design with the sites’ distinctive early 20th century architecture. With that in mind, Alicia thoughtfully curated a mix of tenants that valued both the uniqueness of spaces from of a bygone era and the details of modern design. To date, these tenants include Bloomberg, world-class restaurants La Mar, Coqueta and Hard Water, and numerous private companies. Combined with a sprawling public promenade, dock and water taxi landing, they are the vibrant heart of the transformed Piers.

I have long been impressed with Alicia’s ability to blend avant guard creativity with business acumen. Her end-to-end work on The Piers project epitomizes Alicia’s instinct for out-of-the box vision, coupled with tenacious implementation and skilled operational management which brought the acclaimed La Mar Cebicheria, The Plant, Coquette and Bloomberg to San Francisco and turned a derelict water ferry waiting room and storage facility into one of the most visited locales in the Bay Area. Alicia is a skilled and collaborative professional and I thoroughly enjoy working with her.
